Surrey Easter Chess Congress, 21-24 March 2008Last Edited: Saturday March 29, 2008 12:13 PMReport by Sue LalicThe Surrey Easter Chess Congress took place at Nonsuch School, Sutton,from March 21-24 2008. 280 players participated, including a junior event on one day, and a prize fund of £2,300. Congress website. Open (4 days): 1 Graeme Buckley 6½/7, 2 Eddie Dearing 6, 3= Alexander Cherniaev, Jovica Radovanovic,Yang-Fan Zhou 5. Yang-Fan Zhou won the British Championship Qualifying Place for 2008. Major U160 (4 days): 1 Victor Jones 6½/7, 2= Michael Price, Steven Hampton 5. Intermediate U120 (4 days): 1= Jasper Tambini, John Rayner 6/7, 3 David Gudmundson 5. SCCA U-18 Champion: Yang-Fan Zhou Challengers U140 (2 days): 1= James Porter, James Worthen 4/5, 3 Peter Buckley 3½. Minor U100 (2 days): 1 Christopher Dunne 4½/5 2= Matthew Wadsworth, Peter Saunders, Joshua Cavendish 4. Rapidplay U120 (1 day): 1 Ian Mason 4½/5, 2 Christopher Dunne 4, 3= Alexander Jelicic, Sam Porter 3½. Sam Porter wins the U80 grading prize.
